1} IN-CHARACTER (IC) vs. OUT-OF-CHARACTER (OOC)
In-character is a term used to describe your appearance and behavior while role-playing. It is your virtual or fictional-self, acting and behaving the character you've created. Majority of the time, you will enjoy remaining in-character, socializing with other players living their "Second Life" in one of our virtual worlds.
Out-of-character refers to actions and communication that do not contribute nor is in-theme to the role-play stories created here.
If you wish to speak in OOC:
use a private IM if possible, or
use brackets "(( your chat ))" around your text, or
By showing your OOC status, other players won't include you in their role-play.
2} ROLEPLAYING
Role-playing is based on this principle. Know your friends and your enemies. Who do you trust and why? Give your character a personality. Work hard to make your character look the part, speak the part, keep the illusion going. Show everyone "who" your character is by actions and dress. Demonstrate your personality and your character flaws. In time, your character will develop naturally.
3} LANGUAGE
Although the prevalent language is English, we welcome people from different countries and languages however we do appreciate your effort to communicate in English. Please be patient with other players to ease the communication barriers.
4} NO GODMODDING
Godmodding is either trying to control another person's character or making a character who is too perfect or too powerful.
Make sure when you role-play that you describe only your character's actions and responses to other character's actions. You should NEVER include another character's response to your action in your own action.
Don't make a character who knows everything, can do anything, and be careful when creating their skills and abilities; everyone has limits and they should be reasonable.
Never role-play permanently disfiguring someone's character; ripping out an eye , cutting off an ear. In your mind they may grow back, but that may not be the beliefs of someone else. Always, always get permission.
5} NO METAGAMING
In role-playing games, a player is metagaming when they use knowledge that is not available to their character in order to change the way they play their character (usually to give them an advantage within the game), such as knowledge of the mathematical nature of character statistics, or the statistics of a creature that the player is familiar with but the character has never encountered. In general, it refers to any gaps between player knowledge and character knowledge which the player acts upon.
Meta gaming can often be as simple as knowing a character's name that walks up to you because you can see it over their head in Second Life. If you have not been introduced, or they do not have some form of name badge on a uniform or clothing, it is impossible for you to know who they are which will require you to role play out getting their name for use in the future.
6} RESPECT
Since our sims are rated mature, we require everyone to be 18 years old and older in RL, and all players should act it! Immaturity will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with someone OOC, take it to private instant messages or mute the person bothering you! OOC arguments disrupt role-play and BOTH parties will be warned, ejected or even banned.
If you are warned by an admin for violation of a rule or improper conduct, you are NOT to discuss or debate it. Rules are clearly stated and everyone is supposed to read them - ignorance is not an excuse.
Regardless of RP role, everyone is to be treated and respected equally when out-of-character. Remember, treat others as you would want to be treated.
7} FIRES
citizens are allowed to start small fires after verifying that there are fire staff to take care of it. In order to place a fire of more than 10 prims, please contact a Mod/Admin with your RP plan for review and approval.
Civic Buildings are not permitted targets for fires due to griefing potential. Placing fires in either Rented Shops or Civic Buildings (PD/FD) without admin approval is not permitted for any reason. There are buildings provided empty throughout the sim for fire RP.
At no time is the use of TredPro SPREADING fire permitted in this sim and use of that fire may result in the voiding of your RP and removal from the Charming, Redwood County California RP sim.
8} EXPLOSIVES / TERRORISM
Neither of these items are permitted in the Charming RP unless approved by a Moderator or Administrator. No Exceptions.
The unapproved use of any explosives or terrorism style materials will result in immediate removal from the SIM and a time period ban depending upon the scope of the violation.
9} NO FLYING
Can you Fly in RL? Nope! so don't do it here.
10} NO SIT HACKING
Plain and Simple, no Tping or Sit Hacking into someones home or behind a locked door. Failure to listen to this rule will result in ejection or even a Ban.
11} DD HUD
a DD HUD MUST be Worn at ALL Times, NO Exceptions!
12} NOT A COMBAT SIM
Charming is not a COmbat Sim, Yes we have DD Health Meters, but that does not mean go around Shooting the crap out of everything, we Encourage Roleplay here!
13} Driving and DD HUD
If you are Driving, you MUST be IC in the DD HUD, No Excuses, 1 warning, then an eject, then a ban
